JOB SUMMARY
The Chief Accountant manages the hotel’s accounting operations and financial reporting activities, ensuring compliance with Marriott policies, corporate procedures, and applicable legal requirements. This role provides leadership to the accounting team, maintains robust internal controls, and supports business decision-making through accurate and timely financial information.
A critical responsibility of this role is the continued development of the incumbent’s finance leadership capabilities in preparation for future progression into an Assistant Director of Finance position. The Chief Accountant acts as a role model, mentor, and subject matter expert, promoting continuous improvement, automation, and analytical insight across the finance function.
This role contributes significantly to the financial health of the property by ensuring sound accounting practices, effective risk management, and the development of future finance talents.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
• 4-year bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting or related major; 5-7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least 2 years of experience supervising or leading accounting staff; experience in the hospitality industry is highly preferred, with exposure to internationally recognized hotel brands considered a significant advantage
OR
• 2-year degree from an accredited university in Finance and Accounting or related major; 2 years experience in finance and accounting or related professional area.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Managing Work, Projects, and Policies
• Coordinates and implements accounting work and projects as assigned.
• Coordinates, implements and follows up on Accounting SOP audits for all areas of the property.
• Complies with Federal and State laws applying to fraud and collection procedures.
