Commis Chef

Nestled amidst the beautiful Gold Coast beaches and thriving shopping, dining and nightlife of Australia’s Gold Coast, just 150 metres from beautiful Surfers Paradise beach, the hotel features 408 well-appointed rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, Restaurant, Blvd Café and bar, Pool Bar, tennis courts, gymnasium and games room. Novotel Surfers Paradise also has dedicated Conference & Events facilities catering for up to 500 guests.

 

Job Description

 

The role

We have a wonderful rare opportunity to join our Kitchen Brigade as a casual Commis Chef, you’ll be responsible for assisting in the effective operation of the Kitchen and working in a team to provide quality and a high level of service to guests while adhering to Kitchen policies and procedures.

Now more than ever, its important you understand food hygiene and can stay up to date with our cleanliness standards. As well as growing and developing, we want YOU to have the passion to THRIVE in a fast paced Kitchen environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Food production in accordance with requirements whilst ensuring correct methods of cooking, consistency in product and quality
  • Ensure the overall cleanliness and the health and safety & adhere to strcit food safety guidelines, follow GIA procedures for food waste.
  • Responsible for proper storage, labelling and use of all food supplies to prevent unnecessary spoilage and to maintain cost control
  • Assist in the supervision of junior kitchen staff by providing instruction of duties
  • Be a positive team member with a “Can Do” attitude

 

Qualifications

 

What we’re looking for:

  • Commercial Cookery Qualification – Cert III or IV
  • An experienced Chef with a creative flair and able to work across a la carte dining and functions and events
  • Have previous experience working on pans and grill
  • Sound knowledge of the latest trends in the industry
  • Familiar with Food Safety and WHS legislation
  • A passion for locally sourced and seasonal produce
  • Proven ability to work in a high pressure and fast-paced environment
  • Creative, eye for Detail and a Flair for Presentation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A desire to develop among a driven & professional team
  • Ability to work autonomously on a section or within a fast-paced team
