Of course, our next Director of Revenue needs to understand pricing, forecasting, segmentation, distribution, market share and profitability.
But that is only part of the job.
I am looking for someone who is curious enough to ask why: Why did the market move? Why did one segment perform while another didn’t? Why are guests booking us rather than our competitors … or why aren’t they? Where are we leaving money on the table?
And most importantly: what are we going to do about it?
Revenue management today is no longer about sitting behind a screen and changing rates.
It is about understanding the entire business.
